ACCEA is formed of a main committee and 14 sub-committees (each representing
a different section of England & Wales). There are also Local Awards Committees,
which will decide on levels 1-8 and level 9 Local awards. Local

Main Committee The Committee provides advice on the nominations for awards
that are proposed by the Chairman & Medical Director. They will have based
their recommendations on nominations suggested by the sub-committees and other
national bodies. The membership of the main committee includes members of the
Department of Health, NHS managers, the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, academic
and research medicine and lay people. Advertising

Sub- Committees All ACCEA regional sub-committees are coterminous with
the whole or a part of a Government Office of the Regions. Membership of the sub-committee
comprises professional, employer and lay members. The sub-committees are responsible
for considering possible candidates for national awards in all specialties taking
into account nominations from organisations and individuals. - View

for national award holders who wish to apply to be members of ACCEA sub-committees
National award holders can apply to be members of ACCEA sub-committees by contacting
the secretariat. Applications should be accompanied by a brief CV. All posts must
be publicised and ACCEA has the discretion to do so in the most effective and
proportionate way. ACCEA may seek nominations from appropriate organisations;
selection will be made by ACCEA's chairman and medical director in consultation
with the officers of the relevant sub-committee. ACCEA will maintain a list
of successful applicants who will be called on to fill vacancies which arise.
They will be selected to maintain the balance of their committee in terms of speciality,
hospital type, geography, gender and ethnicity. Note for non-national
award holders who wish to apply to be members of ACCEA sub-committees Each
sub-committee has, among its medical members, some who do not hold a national
ACDA or ACCEA award. This note explains how such consultants can volunteer for
consideration as members of their relevant sub-committee. Medical members
should be experienced consultants in good standing who already hold local CEA
or discretionary points They will not be undertaking medical management nor be
an officer or council member of a professional society (although they may have
held such office prior to appointment to an ACCEA sub-committee). Each applicant
should submit the names of a medical and a lay referee. The latter will not be
or have been involved in the NHS. ACCEA will also seek a citation from the applicant's
Chief Executive. Applicants may be interviewed. ACCEA will maintain a list

Code
of Practice: The Code of Practice for the Advisory Committee on Clinical
Excellence Awards and its sub-committees, has been written with regard to the
seven principles of public life identified by the Nolan Committee in their First
Report on Standards in Public Life in May 1995 and subsequently endorsed by the
Government. Like others who serve the public, members of ACCEA and its subcommittees
should follow the principles. Members of ACCEA are expected to comply at all times
with the Code of Practice. |
