Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (ACDP)

Publication Scheme

The Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (ACDP) is an advisory non-departmental body (ANDPB), advising the Health and Safety Commission, the Health and Safety Executive, and UK Health and Agriculture Ministers on all aspects of hazards and risks to workers and others from exposure to pathogens. It has a joint Defra/ HPA/ HSE Secretariat. Responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the scheme will lie with the Secretariat on behalf of the Chairman of the ACDP, and the individuals with responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance of the scheme will be Mr Graham Lott (Defra Secretary to ACDP), Miss Charlotte Mirrielees (HPA Secretary to ACDP) and Mr Norman Smith (HSE Secretary to ACDP).

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 requires public authorities, including the ACDP, to adopt and maintain publication schemes having regard to the public interest and access to information. In consideration of these aims and taking account of the particular nature of the ACDP's work, its core audience, and the limited available administrative resources, ACDP has agreed to publish:

  • Terms of reference
  • Membership List
  • List of ACDP guidance documents and information on availability
  • Summaries of selected ACDP publications
  • Electronic copies of the Biological Agents Bulletin
  • Agendas (pre-meetings) - for meetings held since September 1997
  • Annotated agendas (post-meetings) - for meetings held since September 1997
  • Secretariat contact details
  • Code of Practice for ACDP members
  • Register of members' interests *
  • Minutes of Committee meetings, except where exemptions allowed under the Code of Practice on Access to Information are invoked (for meetings held from March 2003 onwards) *
  • Annual Reports

Some of this information is already in the public domain - either as printed hard copy guidance or on the HSE and DH ACDP websites. It is intended that information marked with an asterisk in the list above will be published on the website at a later date, as relevant information becomes available and is compiled by the Secretariat. Information on the websites is available free of charge, and full guidance documents are published in hard copy available for purchase from The Stationery Office or HSE Books. Specific guidance documents currently in preparation will be available in full, free of charge, on the websites.
