Professor Gary French

Professor Gary French Professor Gary French is Professor of Microbiology at King’s College, London, and Consultant in Microbiology and Clinical Lead in Infection Control at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists and holds the Diploma in Hospital Infection Control from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

His research expertise covers the areas of clinical microbiology, antimicrobial chemotherapy and resistance, and healthcare-associated infections.

He is the author or co-author of nearly 200 publications. He was formerly Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Hospital Infection and is now an editorial advisor.

He is a regular invited speaker at national and international conferences on antimicrobial resistance and healthcare-associated infections.

He was previously Chairman of the Hospital Infection Society and Board member of the International federation of Infection Control. He has served on several national advisory committees and is presently a member of the Rapid Review Panel. He is or has been a member of recent national Working Parties reporting on glycopeptide resistant enterococci, hospital-acquired pneumonia and community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
