Portable Document Format Introduction1. EAGA is a non-statutory advisory non-departmental public body. It was established in 1985 "To provide advice on such matters relating to HIV/AIDS as may be referred to it by the Chief Medical Officers of the Health Departments of the United Kingdom". The membership is made up of medical/scientific experts and representatives from the voluntary and community sector. The Health Protection Agency's Expert Advice Support Office provides the Secretariat. No fees are paid to members who are appointed for fixed terms in accordance with guidance from the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments. Purpose and aims of the scheme2. In November 2002, the Freedom of Information Act 2000 Publication Scheme requirements were introduced. The Publication Schemes provide easy access to a wide range of information across Government. 3. Within a spirit of openness and transparency, the EAGA publication scheme aims to improve access to the material it produces. The scheme lists information that EAGA has either made a commitment to make available, or is required to make available. Our aim is to make information available free of charge whenever we can legally do so, except where we consider release would cause a breach of confidentiality or the information contains detail which is exempt because it relates to policy advice to Ministers. In such cases we will withhold information under an appropriate exemption in the Code of Practice on Access to Government Information. The scheme also sets out how EAGA intends to publish the different classes of material, where it is available from and in what format. Overview of the approach used in determining the EAGA publication scheme4. In determining what goes in to the publication scheme at Annex A EAGA started with the presumption that as much information as possible should be made available under the scheme. The Secretariat then looked in more detail at the types of information provided to and by EAGA and how it should be classified. Responsibility for the scheme5. The responsibility for the scheme will rest with Mr Gerry Robb, EAGA Sponsor at the Department of Health, Fifth Floor, Wellington House, 133-155 Waterloo Road, London SE1 8UG. On a day-to-day basis the scheme will be maintained by the EAGA Secretariat, Expert Advice Support Office, Health Protection Agency, 61 Colindale Avenue, London NW9 5EQ.
