Nutrition Forum

The Nutrition Forum will bring key stakeholders in nutrition together on a regular basis to allow an exchange of views and information and to facilitate communication between stakeholders. This will encourage co-ordination between stakeholders to maximise effectiveness of actions and avoid duplication.

The Forum will assist in the development and implementation of nutrition policies and support an effective, co-ordinated nutrition strategy. The overall purpose will be to improve health through improvements in diet and changes in dietary habits .

Members of the Forum are drawn from four main sectors
- Consumers and voluntary organisations
- Health bodies: the NHS and professional bodies.
- Industry - including retailers, growers and manufacturers
- Government departments - national and local

The members are, as far as possible, umbrella bodies covering various sectors and will provide a route for dissemination of information to and from the Forum. Linked to the Forum will be a network of other organisations and individuals who will receive papers on forum business through the Agency and Department of Health website. This will allow them to provide input to forum deliberations in writing or by invitation to attend meeting where this is appropriate.
