Studies approved under ONS application (PIAG ref:
4-07(h)/2002) for flagging on the NHS Central Register
The
NHS Central Register (NHSCR) has now moved to the Information Centre for Health
and Social Care on 1 April. The approval for historical studies up to 10 September
2002 and studies subsequently approved by the ONS Advisory Group for Medical Research
is now provisionally approved under the Information Centre Application (PIAG ref:
4-05(d)/2007) for flagging on the Central Register (formerly the NHSCR) (c.f.
PIAG Minute 7.3 December 2007). This is subject to confirmation that satisfactory
security arrangements are in place. For applicants who previously received data
from the ONS they are still covered under the ONS approval. Approval for flagging
and tracing on the Central Register has reverted to PIAG and its sub-group the
Database Monitoring sub-Group (DMsG). The register of approved studies is attached
below ( as at 1 April 2008).
This Section 251 (formerly S60) approval permits
disclosure of identifiers to the Information Centre for tracing and / or flagging
and subsequent disclosure by the Information Cente to researchers of one or more
of the following: death details, cancer registration, current health area and
exits from the NHS. Where appropriate, this information can be used to facilitate
contacting patients to seek consent to participate in research.
Further
information about the process of approval can be obtained from the Information
