Standing Nursing and Midwifery Advisory Committee (SNMAC)
Membership

Membership immediately before SNMAC abolition in May 2005
 Register of members' interests

All Members are appointed by the Secretary of State. Presidents of the relevant Royal Colleges are normally appointed as members ex-officio. The remaining members are appointed following consultation with representative professional bodies, normally for a period of four years staggered so that half the number retire every two years. Retiring members are eligible for reappointment. Appointed members are members in their own right, and are not expected to represent the interests of any professional body that may have suggested their appointment. Appointments try to provide a spread of specialties, geography and activities (prevention, diagnosis, acute, rehabilitation, chronic care; primary/secondary/tertiary; teaching/non-teaching.etc)
