This draft consultation document deals with those areas of the UKXIRA's terms of reference that seek to ensure the safety of xenotransplantation procedures. It provides a framework to implement infection surveillance, initially for clinical trials. The paper has been drafted for use in the UK but the UKXIRA hope that the document may be of use to colleagues in other countries who are interested in developing similar guidance. It is now being more widely circulated as part of the UKXIRA's commitment to public consultation, and so that many people and organisations with interests in xenotransplantation can contribute to its development You are invited to send any comments by 15th October to the UKXIRA Secretariat at 312 Wellington House, 133-155 Waterloo Road, London SE1 8UG (email: kdarwin@doh.gov.uk or mhoughto@doh.gov.uk) We hope to discuss comments received at the Annual Meeting in December.
